How to Overcome Procrastination in Elearning Online?

One barrier to a successful elearning online experience that is probably most prevalent especially in asynchronous electronic learning method is procrastination. I, myself, experience this from time to time. In fact, it’s becoming quite a hobby!

Self-motivation or just plain motivation is the key or the cure to procrastination but finding that treasure throve of enthusiasm is easier said than done. Fortunately there are strategies that I’ve learned that I’m willing to share to anyone out there stuck in the rut.

Time management – Even if you don’t have a set schedule for your elearning online sessions, initiate setting up your own schedule. Set aside a definite amount of time per week for your sessions. Make it a routine so you won’t forget it.

Join a virtual learning community – It’s nice to have a group of people having the same goals that can support and motivate each other. In my case, we formed an exclusive forum for all student writers where we can post our works to be critiqued and to learn tips from our lecturers who are professional writers. I definitely say that this is a great way to keep motivated and avoid the ugly monster called procrastination!

Create a positive physical learning environment – Set up the room where you do most of your elearning online sessions in a way where distractions won’t easily find you. I prefer a quiet room with no TV. It’s hard enough to avoid surfing the net while you’re in class albeit virtually.

Find something interesting – The best thing about elearning is when you’re really interested in the subject, motivation will come naturally. It’s when you’re forced to undergo elearning online sessions with topics that doesn’t really interest you that motivation becomes a problem. What should you do then? Open yourself up to new concepts and ideas included in your learning content. I sometimes find new ideas fascinating if I learned more about them.
